The Friends of Moccasin Bend would like to announce the third speaker in our three part series, Sam D. Elliott, local attorney, historian, and author! His lecture is:

Ten Little Known Facts about the Civil War in Chattanooga

The Friends of the Bend welcome Mr. Sam Elliott! Whether you’re a Civil War buff or just learning that an epic battle took place here in Chattanooga, this lecture will deliver an in-depth and fascinating perspective about the Battles for Chattanooga and how they shaped the course of American history in 1863.

Lecture Begins 7:00 PM

The Friends are excited to partner with The Camp House to present this year’s lecture series in a new and informal setting. The Camp House is a multipurpose space at the corner of MLK Boulevard and Lindsay Street, at the crossroads of the MLK, City Center, and UTC in the heart of downtown Chattanooga. Arrive early not only to get a good seat but also to enjoy a craft beer, glass of wine, cup of coffee or tea along with a bite to eat. Come be part of the community of park advocates, history buffs, students, and other like-minded neighbors who support the National Park Service and the Friend’s mission!

 

 

More about Mr. Sam D. Elliot:

Sam Elliott is a member of the Chattanooga law firm of Gearhiser, Peters, Elliott and Cannon. A graduate of the University of the South and UT College of Law, Elliott is past president of the Tennessee Bar Association. He participates in several historic preservation and/or research organizations, including serving currently on the board of the Friends of Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park. Elliott has authored books, essays and articles on Tennesseans during the Civil War era, including Isham G. Harris of Tennessee: Confederate Governor and United States Senator in 2010 and Soldier of Tennessee: General Alexander P. Stewart and the Civil War in the West in 1999. He is working on a biography of Confederate general and Tennessee Governor John C. Brown.
